Christmas table settings to inspire you

If you are hosting Christmas this year, one of the most exciting parts is decorating your home. In particular, setting your table. You’ve made all the effort to plan a beautiful Christmas meal. This year, make the table setting just as memorable as the meal!

Check out these 5 tablescape ideas that will inspire you and knock the socks off your guests! Decide on a theme to set the tone of your meal, have a look at these handy tips and have fun creating a Christmas table wonderland!

INSPIRED BY NATURE

The most beautiful decor can be inspired by nature. It’s easy, it’s inexpensive and effective. We love scattering pine cones, pebbles, pine tree sprigs and twigs across the centre of the table like a centrepiece. Tie napkins with twine and insert a sprig of fresh rosemary, or tie together cinnamon sticks and sprinkle star anise across your table. Not only will your table look fabulous, but it will smell divine. You can even find placemats that resemble sawn rounds of tree trunks.

BLUSHING & BEAUTIFUL

Who says you have to stick to traditional festive colours? If you’d like to add a more feminine touch to your Christmas table, try blush. There are beautiful blush ornaments and baubles you can position on your table in clusters. Buy or pick some fresh blush, cream and green floral arrangements and look for soft coloured bird ornaments you can clip onto your napkin rings.

DRIPPING IN GOLD

We love our festive metallics, and gold is on trend this year! Gold matches any colours you may already have (napery, table runners etc.) and looks classy. Use metallic or white lace placemats, topped with gold and white plates. Adorn each setting with a sprig of sprayed gold leaves/berries and a gold ornament. You could tie a gold ribbon around the cutlery and position strings of gold beads around the table.

A WHITE CHRISTMAS

Even though it’s sunny and warm on our southern shores, you can bring some white Christmas magic to your table setting. Simply decorate with white, silver and even light blue frosted items. There’s no shortage of these colours at Christmas. Fill grand clear vases with white ornaments, paint the tips of your pinecones with white glitter paint to resemble snow, or crochet or hand cut paper snowflakes to scatter across your table. Brrrrrrilliant!

MIX & MATCH

Not everything needs to be matchy matchy to be beautiful! Consider alternating black and white plates on mismatched table runners. Place various gold items on top of the plates for decoration such as sprayed leaves, gold ornaments or gold cutlery. Make or buy a grand centrepiece that commands the table and sets the main theme, such as red berries and green leaves.

Happy hosting!
